George T. Noutsios, PhD, was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His dissertation focused on immobilization of antigenic biomolecules in bio-polymeric substrates for detection and diagnosis of endemic Brucella melitensis biotypes. In 2011 he came to the USA to pursue his career in lung diseases research. During his postdoc at Penn State Hershey Medical Center (2011-2016), he studied the role of cis-acting elements and trans-acting factors on splicing and translation of the pulmonary surfactant protein A, and identified 14-3-3 isoforms and microRNAs as potential therapeutic regulatory molecules in lung diseases.
